Well, that didn’t last long! Just over a month ago, we congratulated TobyKeith, a Florida chihuahua, for being recognized as the oldest living dog by Guinness World Records. Today, we’re congratulating a newly recognized, even older dog: Pebbles, a four-pound fox terrier from Taylors, South Carolina.

Pebbles is 22 years old.

Apparently, when Pebbles’ owners – Bobby and Julie Gregory – saw the publicity about TobyKeith, they decided to straighten out the record.

“Friends and family started texting and calling about a story they saw about a 21-year-old dog getting the record,” Julie told Guinness World Records. “When I saw TobyKeith’s story all over the news, I applied.”

GWR officials formally acknowledged Pebbles as the oldest living dog on May 17, 2022. The fox terrier, born on March 28, 2000, is nine months and 12 days older than TobyKeith, who was born on January 9, 2001.

While fox terriers typically live up to 15 years, Pebbles is over 22 years old and stays active, ruling the Gregory household. She sleeps in till 5 p.m. and listens to country music.

“Pebbles is like a wild teen who loves to sleep during the day and is up all night,” said Julie. “She loves listening to country music while she is sleeping. Her two favorite country singers are Conway Twitty and Dwight Yokum.”
